The 1972 Summer Olympics were held in Munich, West Germany. The Games were overshadowed by a terrorist attack, but prior to the attack, the swimming events were spectacular. The men's swimming events were dominated by Mark Spitz's seven Gold medals while Australian Shane Gould, and Americans Sandy Neilson and Melissa Belote each won three Gold medals for the women. All of these (and many more) are shown below.
Kornelia Ender - East Germany
Member of International Swimming Hall of Fame Kornelia Ender won three Silver medals in the 1972 Olympics. Normally that would be a historic performance. But Ender followed it up with four Golds and a Silver in the 1976 Montreal Olympics. She acknowledged in 1991 that East German doctors had given her injections, but nobody really knows if she was injected with steroids for certain. So, we have to take the record as it stands. I got this photo in a trade in 2001, and sent it PSA to get it encapsulated. It came back as authentic and Mint. I'm ok with that.

Rosemarie Kother-Gabriel - East Germany
Member of International Swimming Hall of Fame As a teenager in 1972, Rosemarie was a strong Olympic swimmer, but from 1973-1975, she stepped up to World Record holder and World and European Champion. She won Bronze in the 200 meter butterfly in Montreal, but won Gold in the 4 x 100 meter medley relay. She retired from swimming after 1976.
